This article presents a mixed integer programming model that can be used to determine the optimal gauges of telephone wires used between telephone exchange units and local distribution units while economically meeting certain transmission standards. The model also considers the pupinization and nonpupinization options. An optimal quick reference nomograph is generated using data obtained from the Mexican Telephone System.
