Abstract:

A simulation model for the Melbourne Underground Railway Loop was develed by using SIMAN and FORTRAN. This paper discussed the Methodology used for developing the model and its simulation analysis. The railway loop operation has been considered as a queuing system with signals and railway stations as servers and trains as customers. Using the operational rearrangement approach, the possible alternatives to the existing scheduling were examined for their viabilities and applicabilities to improve the service to railway passengers. One such alternative has been discussed in this paper.
