The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in strategic business areas is becoming more widespread. AI is slowly revealing its ability to provide a competitive advantage for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In this paper, two small expert systems are designed for a bank in its main operation areas. The contributions of the systems and the experience of the project are shared, to provide future designers with a better perceptive of designing small expert systems. Although the organisation which participated in this study is a huge one, the basic intention of the study is to show that AI is within the reach of small businesses.
