Simulation based scheduling is one of the scheduling approaches that has recently become more popular in industrial environments. The main advantage of this technique is that it can provide very accurate and acceptable schedules that take into account a lot more of the real world constraints than most other techniques. This is mainly due to the improved performance of simulation packages which can be used to build very detailed models of industrial environments. Simulation based scheduling, however, has one very important disadvantage: there is no straightforward optimization procedure.
