Abstract:

The concept of Decision Support Systems (DSS) is presently in its teens. However, due to its present contributions to decision making activities as well as its even greater expected potential, it has already generated an enormous amount of interest in academia and in the industry. Many articles have been published, debating on and contributing to the theoretical foundations on the development and use of DSS. Similarly, numerous experiments and cases have been cited, discussing about and contributing to the practical implications on the development and use of DSS in diverse areas such as business strategies to decision support for executives. This paper attempts to integrate and organize the more significant publications and citations to provide the theoretical and practical perspectives in the DSS arena, and to discuss the implications of Asian cultures on the design and use of DSS.
