In this paper, a novel approach based on random sample path behaviour for the study of the transient distribution of the queue length and busy period of the M/M/1 double ended queueing model is given. The arrival rates of the customers and servers are assumed to be time dependent. The exact solution has been obtained in terms of modified Bessel functions. The suggested technique eliminates the use of generating functions.
