A fuzzy approach to the vessel dispatching problem

The paper discusses the process of loading, transport and unloading of gravel by inland water transport. A model for the dispatcher’s decision support is developed. The decision-making process concerning the number of barges left at or taken from ports is modelled by fuzzy logic. By comparing the results obtained through the model with those resulting from the dispatcher’s decision, it has been found that the model is highly compatible with reality.
