A two-stage method for ranking fuzzy multicriteria alternatives with respect to a decision-maker’s fuzzy goal is presented. In the first stage the joint membership function of each fuzzy alternative and the membership function of the fuzzy goal are projected orthogonally from the multicriteria space to the one-dimensional preference subspace of the decision maker. In the second stage a ranking index is used to rank the fuzzy projections in the decision maker’s preference subspace. A numerical example demonstrates the method.
