Inventory control in trade companies-An empirical study

Inventory control is one of the most studied fields of Operations Research. There exists an extensive theory based on a great number of mathematical models and algorithms. This paper investigates the application of these models and algorithms by trading companies where stock is an essential part of the business. After a brief presentation of the problem the results of an enquiry are discussed. Starting with an analysis of the framework for inventory control of trading companies the authors examine the extent to which models and algorithms are actually applied. They further discuss future application and possible developments.
