DemoGraphic’s main feature is its capacity for data-generated-animation. Time-series data are translated into ‘moving’ charts or thematic maps which dynamically change their shape or color coding. For example, one can see the aging of a population as the age and sex composition of a population is translated into a ‘moving’ age pyramid. Currently, DemoGraphics is configured to be used with two data sets: (1) The World Population Scenarios and The European Country Scenarios (1994 Edition), developed by IIASA’s Population Project, and (2) The UN Population Estimates and Projections (1992 Revision), conducted by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Development of the UN Secretariat, New York. DemoGraphics is not restricted to these data sets. It would be easy to expand the application with other population data, such as detailed demographic country reports or data for subnational areas (provinces, districts, etc.)
