Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to describe an Information System using SAS (Strategic Application System) that has contributed to the effective management of the Management Science/Operations Research Society of Malaysia (MSORSM). In order to efficiently manage the affairs of MSORSM it is imperative that proper records are kept and continuously updated. Therefore there is a need to develop a computerised information system for MSORSM. An information system for MSORSM was developed using SAS/Base and SAS/FSP. It has been very useful in managing the affairs of MSORSM. With the system, membership matters are continuously updated and financial transactions are properly recorded. These have inadvertantly facilitated the production of annual financial reports for the annual general meetings. Furthermore the system assists the determination of eligibility of members for attendance at the annual general meetings. Further enhancement of the system can be made with the use of SAS Screen Control Language and SAS/AF. Other information that can be incorporated into the system are activities of MSORSM and historical records of the executive council members.
