The aims are to clarify some basic concepts on cognizant simulation as well as on the similarity and the relationships of AI and simulation; provide an inventory and taxonomy of AI-based (cognizant) simulation and AI-assisted simulation (cognizant simulation environments); and to indicate some desirable research directions.
