Abstract:

Implementing quality management techniques, such as statistical process control (SPC), is a competitive necessity for today’s integrated steel producers in North America. The authors compared successful and unsuccessful SPC project implementations at 12 integrated steel companies to determine the differences in key factors. Successful implementations had larger teams and more middle management support than unsuccessful implementations.
