Abstract:

The introduction of personal computer technology in the early 1980s had offered various facilities to government departments in improving work efficiency and productivity. This is evident from the studies conducted by the Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department from time to time. This paper reports on a study aimed at evaluating the diffusion of personal computers in Malaysian government departments. The analysis is based on data collected from 20 government departments in the Klang Valley. Factors affecting diffusion of technology, impacts and problems in the use of personal computers are determined. A methodology for computerisation in government departments based on personal computers is suggested.
