Abstract:

The author revisits West Churchman’s masterwork The Design of Inquiring Systems and interprets it as presenting a theory of a system’s design integrity, which is in essence a theory of a design’s wholeness, soundness, and virtue. This theory is especially powerful in its professional application, where the role of critical observer-or responsible social witness-also deserves special attention.
