The paper investigated the requirements, which ensure that a mathematical programming modeling system or a model management system becomes a mathematical programming expert system, i.e. an intelligent software tool for solving mathematical programming problems or decision problems containing optimization problems. A mathematical programming model management system has been developed in the Operations Research Department of the Computer and Automation Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The modeling language of the system is GAMS and the system includes a taxonomical classification of decision models.
