A mathematical model for the optimum design of the tendon configurations in prestressed concrete structures is presented. Geometrical constraints are considered in order to assure the feasibility of the solutions. The serviceability limit state of the concrete is guaranteed by suitable constraints. The minimum of the cost of prestressing solution is used as objective function. A transformation of variables is employed to reduce the optimization to a solution of a linear programming problem. Applications of the proposed method are illustrated by examples.
