Constraint programming is a powerful technique for solving combinatorial problems. We have applied this technology to a manpower planning problem encountered in a bank. This problem involves time-tables and miscellaneous constraints. We use the product ILOG SOLVER, an object oriented constraint programming library, developed by the French company ILOG. This tool proved very effective for this type of problem in terms of performance and also in terms of quality and maintainability of the code.
