Abstract:

The nations of the Pacific Rim are characterized by a wide diversity of size, population density, natural endowments, state of development and culture. The paper, using the concepts of the product cycle, comparative advantage of natural resources, labor cost and export-import ratios, traces the cascading of technologies from the highly industrialised nations to the less developed countries. The resulting structural changes are demonstrated by countries which are representative of both particular groups in the region and various stages of development.
