Locating faulty (modules) components in a failed system may require costly inspections. The total expected cost to locate a failed module can be significantly affected by the inspection policy. An adaptive inspection policy for fault diagnosis in a series system is developed. This testing procedure begins by exciting the system’s input and detecting the output of a module which is chosen according to the preceding testing results. This inspection policy can reduce the number of suspected modules to be tested. Some extensions of basic strategies are presented.
