The aim of the paper is to investigate the linear production smoothing problem, in the case of continuous time. The author uses the well-known maximum principle for solving the problem. An algorithm can be constructed with the help of the necessary and sufficient conditions. The algorithm is a forward algorithm. The solution is monotone decreasing in the production rate. If a solution exists, there are cycles. A cycle consists of a constant and a demand rate term.
