Abstract:

Queueing theory in the past and still to-day, been used intensively for the design and the analysis of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS’s). The queueing approach, combines on the one hand important theoretical developments in queueing theory and network of queues and extensive applications to the performance analysis of information systems. The purpose of this paper is to survey the application of queues to the modelling of FMS’s and to the management of such manufacturing systems, based on the stochastic environment presumed by networks of queues.
