It is important to consider the motives of countries that are developing their informatics policies. For even though the politics of informatics may result in mandatory regulation of all activities associated with this and related fields or just in a set of recommendations, national informatics policies tend to develop common attitudes to those situations that arise when a country faces the challenge of developing computing systems and their applications. This paper discusses some typical situations and presents the problems and questions that arise when developing a national policy on informatics.
