This article is a graphical presentation to determine the approximate chances that an X-Bar control chart will detect a critical shift in the process average with the first subgroup, or sample, that is charted after the shift has occurred. It also provides a crude estimate of the percentage nonconforming product that will be produced if such a shift occurs.
