Abstract:

The paper investigates which requirements inequality measures measures must meet, in the case of a varying number of sources. If one wants to view the notions of ‘concentration’ and ‘diversity’ as two complementary notions, slight adaptions of measures such as the coefficient of variation, the Gini index and Theil’s entropy measure are necessary. This leads to a new class of concentration and diversity measures.
