An algorithm is presented for evaluating the upper and lower bounds of the performance index, i.e., reliability and capacity, through its replacement by a simple network using the state enumeration method. The proposed method is computationally fast and efficient in situations where many of the links of the network have very high reliabilities. An example illustrating the use of the algorithm is given.
