Subject of this paper is a genetic algorithm for the minimization of freight rate in the area of commercial road transportation. First the basic concepts and elementary operators of genetic algorithms are explained. Then a coding for the above minimization problem is presented. A concrete genetic algorithm for freight minimization is derived by the application of the concepts of genetic algorithms to the coding presented. The algorithm is especially suited for a suboptimal solution of the freight minimization problem.
