Decision support systems may best be understood by exploring how managers and decision makers preceive the distinctions between ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ systems. This paper examines how ‘soft’ systems and then ‘hard’ systems can be developed and used so they are sensitive to client needs and remain relevant to human culture and values.
