After a brief summary of the origins of OR, the author asks the question ‘Why isn’t good Operational Research OR more common now?’. In answering the question, the author raises topics such as the impact of computers on Operational Research OR and the job-titles used by people who do ‘OR-related’ work in industry. It leads into a discussion of some packages for statistical analysis, especially of time series, which may be useful for the Operational Research OR scientist using a personal computer.
