Abstract:

Information technology is exhibiting a vertiginous growth which affects all areas of economic and scientific activity, and more recently, leisure and recreation. This genuine revolution which has been provoked by information technology is giving rise to changes in the make-up of entrepreneurship, in organizational structures and in the habits of individuals. Choices regarding modes of transportation, and decisions which weigh factors such as location and paths of communication will undergo profound change which will alter the growth dynamics of metropolitan areas. This paper discusses some of these issues and attempts to provide some foresight into the impact of new information technologies on location, transport and mobility in the urban and regional contexts.
